 Is it me? Emotional numbing?

Is it me? Emotional numbing?

I cannot feel emotionally. Im not telling my stupid old sob story coz that's long and I cba to type it up, remember it and then get sad...
So my mum told me she tried to commit suicide and I just smiled.
I was depressed and suicidal - is this genetic?
And why the heck can I not feel anything?!

1: Nothing about suicide is genetic. Though you live in the same environment as your mother does and if she has tried to commit suicide under some circumstances, well, it's probable that you might have the same desire (or whatever that word is/please excuse my english) to do so under same circumstances.

Some people are emotionally disasters, some are in the middle somewhere and some just don't have any emotions for whatsoever. Though your not feeling anything when your mother told you she tried to commit suicide is a bit weird. I see you did not tell us about the relationship between you and your mother. Based on what you've said above, I assume either you don't like her much and you don't have strong feelings for each other or you're having very bad days (emotional numbness usually occurs with adult teens or, young adults) and can't really think of your mother as you're heavily busy with yourself?

If you can give me details, I can be more helpful.
